SAT

The SAT, an extensively administered standardised test, is utilised for college admissions in the United States. Multiple names and compositions have been altered since its inception in 1926. Throughout a significant portion of its existence, it was referred to as the Scholastic Aptitude Test and comprised of Verbal and Mathematical sections, with respective scoring tiers spanning from 200 to 800. Subsequently, it underwent a series of designations: the Scholastic Assessment Test, the SAT I: Reasoning Test, the SAT Reasoning Test, and finally the SAT.

The SAT is privately held, developed, and published in the United States by the College Board, a non-profit, private organisation. The Educational Testing Service, acting on behalf of the College Board, administers the examination. Prior to the redesign of the SAT in 2016, the service also devised the examination and managed a repository of items (test questions). The purpose of the examination is to evaluate your preparedness for college. With the intention of avoiding alignment with high school curricula, the 2016 iteration of the SAT underwent numerous modifications. David Coleman, president of the College Board, further stated his intention to align the examination with the material covered in high school by incorporating the Common Core standards. These standards have been embraced by numerous states and the District of Columbia.

Collaboration between the College Board and Khan Academy commenced for the 2015–16 academic year with the aim of offering complimentary SAT preparation. The College Board declared the elimination of the optional essay component and SAT Subject Tests beginning in June 2021 on January 19, 2021. The College Board declared in January 2022 that the examination would transition from a traditional paper-and-pencil format to a digital one. This modification went into effect on March 9, 2024 in the United States and March 9, 2023 for international test-takers.
